The Perfect SAN, if it was even attainable, would probably mean something different to everyone involved. - For the CIO, CFO, CTO, it probably has attributes such as low cost, with the ability to provide clear concise reporting on where all their allocated dollars for storage, backup, and data management went last quarter or last year.
- For the Director of IT, it may mean a Storage Area Network / Network Attached Storage system that's stable and has the uptime that the vendor's promised, and doesn't need an army of people to manage it, whether company resources, or contractors.
- For the Storage Admin, it could mean that the day to day storage functions don't bleed over into other tasks they have, including the all important - quality of life!
